littleBoxes is a compact database which enables you to store any information you like within a single app.

For personal use, littleBoxes can keep track of almost anything that you can think of. Store "Christmas Gift Ideas", "Home Asset Serial Numbers", "Car Service Details", or thousands of other topics.

For corporate users, littleBoxes can be used to clone sections of backend databases or spreadsheets. Gather information on the move and then import that data into your backend systems for storage and manipulation.

Some key features of littleBoxes are:

■ Multiple field types – numeric, text, date, time, date/time.

■ Create your own field types which store lookup values for quick data entry via the Lists feature.

■ Generate queries on your data and export the results via email in HTML or CSV attachment formant.

■ Import data by pasting text (e.g. from an email) or importing from a URL on your web server.

■ Don’t have a web server? Use our import service to get your data into littleBoxes. Visit http://www.nocturnalware.biz/ for more information.

Some real data sorting capability

I've been playing around with different apps for storing and sorting various piles of data in my life. I like this one in some ways, and in others, it falls short.

First off, the good: this app provides great query options, allowing you to sort data based upon how it relates to other fields, with various data types (numeric, text, time, and a nice "list" function, which allows quick access to frequently used entries without having to retype them. Functionally, this is a serious database, especially since it allows for the importation of external database files.

Now, the not so good. I'm a bit of an organization fiend, and the Tables field gives no option for grouping or organizing your different tables. I'd like to be able to keep things grouped in folders, rather than having to scroll through a huge list. The Lists panel has the same problem. You can make a list for anything to assist in quick entry, but if you end up with a bunch of them, organization will quickly become a problem.

Other thoughts: something along the lines of a quickstart manual would be nice. It took me a bit to discover that swiping across an entry will allow you to delete it. I kept expecting to see a garbage can in the lists or field view, but the garbage can on the main view just nukes all your tables (scary!). Also, there doesn't seem to be an option for editing your table's fields once created.

Overall, this is a nice database. I suppose the title of the App is appropriate: this is a little box, meant for a specific use at any one time (so table organization won't be such an issue). This app isn't necessarily a full life organizer and cataloger, but for some small scale data crunching, it's very functional.

Handy sorting utility

I like this application quite a bit. It's handy for sorting all sorts of bits of data.
In the future, I'd like to see some additions such as different data types (e.g. lists) and the ability to modify existing tables.
This isn't a full-fledged database app, but will do in a pinch when you want to keep track of some stuff.

Very useful app

Littleboxes is a nice, little database that has enough minimal features to satisfy almost everyone. You can import CSV files or input your own. Using the list function, you can customize just about any data you will need. It's a great way to bring along your databases with you from the desktop. My only wish is that there was a native ipad version, instead of using the 2x feature on the ipad. Perhaps in a future release...
